Dirt Bike Maintenance

!: Dirt Bike Maintenance

Dirt bikes need regular maintenance to ensure optimum performance and longevity. Each brand is different, so it is important to refer to the service manual for your particular bike. There are specific areas on every dirt bike which should be checked regularly to keep it running smoothly. These areas include the oil, air filter, tires, wheels, brakes, and carburetor. You should take care about your dirt bike maintenance.

The oil needs to be changed much more frequently on a dirt bike than on a street bike or a car. An oil change should include a filter and needs to be done based on the hour schedule in the owner's manual. Doing this regularly with the correct, quality motorcycle specific oil is critical for the life of your dirt bike.

Air filters are subject to an extremely dirty environment. They should be checked and often cleaned after every trip. Not doing this critical procedure will allow dirt into the engine, which can eventually destroy it.

When checking the tires, you should insure that the tire pressure is correct, per the user manual. There should be no cuts in the tire and the tread or knobs should be in good shape.

The wheels should not have any missing spokes, and they should not feel loose or bent when you spin them. There should not be any dents or chips in the rim through which air can leak.

It is important to check that the wheels fully lock when the brakes are applied. There should be adequate brake fluid in the master cylinders and the fluid should be clean. Brake pads and liners should be checked to make sure they are in good condition.

The vent hoses in the carburetor should not be melted or clogged with mud. Check to make sure the throttle cable is not frayed or kinked. Occasionally rebuilding a motorcycle's carburetor should be done, especially prior to a new off-road season. When disassembling a carburetor, make sure that fluids have not seeped inside the floats. The tip of the float needle should be in good condition, and the air passages at the bottom of the bell mouth should not be clogged with dirt or oil.

Washing the dirt bike should be a part of routine maintenance, especially after a day of cross country biking. You can wash your bike easily with a garden hose, as long as you are careful to avoid getting water into the air box or seals. After washing, you can dry the bike with a towel or compressed air. The engine can be started briefly to dry the exhaust pipe, engine, and carburetor. After the bike is dry, it is helpful to lubricate the chain and spray rust inhibitor on bolts and other exposed steel parts.

If you find your bike needs work you cannot do on your own, you may need to hire a technician. When choosing an individual or company to service your bike, it is helpful to evaluate the services they offer and their turnaround time, as well as the cost for parts and labor. It is also a good idea to get references from friends and fellow dirt bike enthusiasts.

Choosing the Right Road Bike

!: Choosing the Right Road Bike

While we all can't be Lance Armstrong in the Tour de France, we can enjoy riding through the great outdoors on a road bike. Road biking is fast growing sport that not only gets you outside, but gets you physically fit as well. Road bikes are designed for speed. They have light weight frames and thin high pressure tires for gliding over hard road services.

Most new cyclists will want to start with a quality bike that won't break the bank. The primary driver of a road bike's cost is the frame. Bicycle frames are made from various different materials. The materials drive the cost. Most high end road bikes are made from light weight but strong materials. Bikes on the lower end of the price range have frames made from either steel or aluminum. Aluminum is lighter but offers a harsher ride. Steel of course is stronger and heavier, but offers a smoother ride due to the extra weight.

Working our way a little further up the price scale, medium priced bikes offer frames with some components and parts made out of carbon. Many medium priced bikes have aluminum frames with carbon forks. Even further up the price line are bikes that have both frames and components made from carbon fiber. Carbon fiber is a material that consists of thin fibers made primarily of carbon. Carbon fiber is a very strong and durable material that is very light.

The most elite (and expensive) bikes are made from Titanium. Often referred to as the "space age metal", Titanium is very light weight and strong. Titanium also has the benefit of being corrosion resistant as well. Bikes made with Titanium are expensive and definitely intended for high end cyclists.

If you aren't sure exactly which of the various frame options are right for you, take a test ride. Riding a bike made from the different materials is the best way to make the right choice for your road bike.

In in addition to the frames, the various components of the bike, including wheels, gears, and brakes can make a big difference as well. After all, who wants to be in the middle of their ride and having to fight with the shift mechanism.

The right bike for you will boil down to a combination of price, comfort, features and style. When buying your road bike, focus on getting the best frame you can buy. Components such as brakes, shifters, seats, etc can all be upgraded later, but the frame is the core of the bike.

Most importantly once you do purchase your bike, get out there and ride it!

Quad Bikes - Joy On Four Wheels

!: Quad Bikes - Joy On Four Wheels

The quad bike is correctly referred to as a car that has 4 tyres and weighs of below 1210lbs - but not a car. Steering it on a street requires a MV license, registration in line with national and provincial laws not to mention the mandatory insurance cover.

It is an ATV (All Terrain Vehicle and designed for off-road use while in different places, a useful horse for farmhouses, posts and haciendas. They may as well be labelled Quad Bikes, ATVs and Quads, although they are one and the same.

The chronicles of the quad goes way back till 1893 when Royal Enfield traded off their first motor quadra cycle. Through 1899, this firm was making quadracycle having a De Dion motor then commenced sampling Minerva engines equipped on a dense bicycle frame. The Minerva was clamped on the front side downtube. Despite being from the cycles category, the Enfield quadricycle - quad made as a 'carriage without a horse' for ordinary use.

At almost that period, Henry Ford, a US car fabricator made the quadracycle, in fact, the quadracycle happened to be the earliest car fabricated by Ford. That quadracycle was simply two cylinder, 2-speed and with no reverse. It was 500lbs.

He sold off his quad in 1896 for merely 0 - a tidy sum in those eras and acquired it back some time later at . In modern times, a majority, if not all motor cycle manufacturers at the moment come up with quad bikes for sale and because of the attractiveness of the sport, we have publications devoted entirely to quad bikes as well as allied ATVs. Children are no longer left out of the picture and in truth, they have tournaments in every place where youngsters can 'strut their stuff' behind the handle bars of children's All Terrains.

activities, can be able to exhibit dexterity and knowledge in the management of a machine; to the relevant provincial or state administration.

Should the ATV be for use on the road or racing, it is great to ascertain with DMV at your state or provincial offices for licensing questions, certifications among others. But other than that, the fun you are going to have with those toys for adults cannot be compared with almost anything else. If you have experience with motorbikes, you have to know, that there is nothing in common with the quad bikes, it's lots of fun but in completely different way!

Choosing Your Next Mountain Bike Wheelset

Mountain biking is an adventurous sport especially when the bike you use has a prefer pair of wheels. To get this perfect pair of wheels, the wheelsets should be a combination of durable rims and tubeless tires and a perfect traction. Choosing these important features when settling for a mountain bike is mandatory to ensure a safe sporting experience.

Follow these simple guidelines and find your bike wheelsets

Bikes Rims

1. The rims form the bike's main component as this is what the entire bike rests on. Hence it should be strong and durable. The two metals that are used for making rims are steel and aluminum. When selecting rims for mountain bikes you should not compromise on quality even if you should pay a bit more. Quality rims will have many nipples that are hidden within them. These help to hold the spokes in place and connect them firmly to the rim.

Reinforced woven cotton rim strips. Superior adhesive qualities keeps rim strip in place on rim. Can be used on most rims depending on width up to 700c/29".

2. Since your bike is a mountain bike surely the traction should be extremely high. Make sure you choose the best traction that would allow you easy running over rough and rocky terrain as this is the point that grips the wheel to the pavement while riding. It is easy to identify the best traction for your bike. Look at the tread pattern on the tires. The more treads the higher traction, lesser treads low traction.

This is only a small piece of information from my very limited knowledge of the sport. You can learn more about it with the help of internet. There are thousands of blogs and how to articles that will help you to choose a good wheelset which matches your taste and the terrain where you are practicing. Any kind of sport is dangerous if it is not done with the help of the right gears.

Mountain biking is not only an adventurous sport it could be dangerous too if your bike is not sturdy enough to take the impact. The wheels play the most vital part in the bikes hence the wheelsets should be of the right proportion to allow a steady and hassle free running over the mountain terrain which is most of the time rough and rocky. An attractive mountain bike on a sturdy pair of wheels makes all the difference! I also do a lot of online shopping for picking my favorite wheelsets and from my experience it is always cheap to grab it at an online store where they will have discounts.
